Andie MacDowell candidly discusses her experience with piriformis syndrome, her journey towards finding happiness and independence in her late 60s, and the joyous milestones of her children.

Andie MacDowell is candidly sharing her experience with piriformis syndrome, a condition that affects the piriformis muscle and can compress the sciatic nerve, leading to pain in the buttocks and leg. The 66-year-old actress, known for her roles in films like 'Four Weddings and a Funeral' and 'Groundhog Day,' revealed on an episode of 'The Drew Barrymore Show' that she feared she needed a hip replacement after experiencing intense pain shooting down her leg.

MacDowell, who also stars in the series 'Maid,' explained that her pain was particularly noticeable while using her Peloton bike. 'I ended up with bad knees and a bad hip and ... I thought I was literally falling apart, like I was gonna have to get new pieces,' she shared, according to USA Today. 'But the good news is my pieces are fine. My knees are good except for aging. They've aged. I'm working out really hard now doing PT. I'm not falling apart.' Thankfully, MacDowell discovered that her hip pain stemmed from piriformis syndrome. 'Thank God my hips are fine,' she expressed. 'I have to work my tiny little bottom and my hips. I have to work the bottom and work my hip. I just do it every day. And it doesn't hurt anymore. It's a miracle. It really is.'Beyond her health concerns, MacDowell also discussed her journey towards finding independence in her late 60s. She acknowledged feeling a void after her children left home but found solace in a new chapter of her life. 'Once my kids left, I felt this huge void in my life because they were so important to me,' she admitted. 'Margaret was really telling me I was supposed to be having the time of my life, but I wasn't.' MacDowell relocated from Hollywood to South Carolina, embracing a change of scenery and a renewed sense of happiness. 'I’m having the time of my life now,' she affirmed. 'It's really good.'The actress's family has also been experiencing joyous milestones. In December 2023, her daughter Rainey welcomed her first child with partner Anthony Watson. Margaret, her other daughter, surprised Rainey with a baby shower in September. MacDowell's son, Justin, also joined the celebrations, expressing excitement for his new niece. The actress's candidness about her health challenges, her pursuit of independence, and her supportive family provides a heartwarming glimpse into her life
