Gov. Kay Ivey awarded Andalusia a grant to help build a new plant for Conecuh Sausage.

Last February, the city broke ground on a new plant for Conecuh Sausage. Now, the company is getting more funds to help get the job done.

The family-owned business began in Evergreen in 1947. Now, the southern staple’s market is expanding past what it can produce, so it’s adding this new plant one county over to meet demands. “We know about it around here. It’s a great Alabama product. But now it’s beginning to become a Texas product, South Carolina product, all of the Southeast. Well, if it’s good there, it’s going to be good nationwide, so what a great opportunity for Andalusia to be on the ground floor of this potentially exponential growth that the future holds for Conecuh Sausage,” said Andalusia city administrator John Thompson.

The city of Andalusia hopes to have this project completed by late spring or early summer and be producing that famous Conecuh sausage by June. The plant will employ a minimum of 50 people, but Thompson anticipates the plant to create as many as 120 jobs.Crash victim airlifted to trauma center, Seven Hills Fire District reportsBusy stretch of road in Baldwin County set to close Monday
