Anchors aweigh: A look ahead at NYC's 2024 Fleet Week festivities
The annual celebration for members of the armed forces kicks off on Wednesday with the arrival of Navy and Coast Guard ships in New York City. Vessels will travel up the Hudson River, passing by the Intrepid Museum from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
In a statement released earlier this month, Rear Adm. Wesley McCall, the navy's commander for the Mid-Atlantic region, said the weeklong event is an opportunity for servicemembers to engage with the New York community.The ships will be open for public tours throughout the week. Hosted by the United Veterans and Fraternal Organizations of Maspeth will host the parade, whose theme is “The Leaders of the Future.” Servicemembers will walk in the parade and participate in a small ceremony.Servicemembers will march in the annual Forest Hills American Legion Memorial Day Weekend Parade recognizing those who made the ultimate sacrifice.New Yorkers can meet flight crews after Navy and Marine Corps helicopters land for festivities at Liberty State Park.
