The school board voted to dissolve the school late Monday night, citing misconduct and “repeated breaches of its charter and unacceptable behavior.”
Student Josiah Tshibaka was one of the many passionate voices asking the school board to keep the charter.
“Terminating the charter is not the solution,” Tshibaka said. “It’s blowing up a mountain to address a molehill. It will harm students more than it will help them and it’s not in the best interest of our school. I would urge the board to find a more rational solution. Consider that more than 1,200 people have signed a petition stating that they would leave FPCS if this charter was terminated.”
Those in favor of dissolution have made severe allegations, some saying the charter has the “most dysfunctional governing board they’ve ever experienced,” and “toxicity and conflicts of interest beyond repair.” The charter being dissolved also wouldn’t eliminate the actual school, some say, but would eliminate its toxic management system.
After the vote Monday night, the board continued to talk about what the future of those relationships would be. “ kind of a disappointment, but at the same time, relief, because again, we can come back and we can focus on the mission of the school, educating our kids,” said Shad Schoppert, who identifies as a former Family Partnership APC chair.“I don’t think that the APC has the ability to heal and to move on and move forward in a productive way,” he said. “And so I think it would be disappointing to hear that they would keep it.
