The Anchorage Police Department is increasing its police presence in select parts of town following multiple fatal vehicle vs. pedestrian collisions in September.
ANCHORAGE, Alaska -
According to Noll, the department is seeing a higher amount of fatal vehicle vs. pedestrian collisions this year compared to previous years. So far, the department has seen 13 in 2024 — around half of those crashes occurring in September alone. This time last year, the department said there were six people involved in a fatal collision.
“That is likely due to a change in the lighting that’s available when you go from summertime — where it’s light all night — to the fall where it starts getting dark earlier and you have some rain,” Noll said.
