Anchorage police are investigating reports of a disturbance with a weapon in Sand Lake. A heavy police presence has closed streets in that area, according to an online dispatch.
Police are looking for a suspect and Special Weapons and Tactics Unit is on the scene, according toAnchorage Police Department Special Operations, which includes SWAT, the Crisis Negotiation Team, and the Tactical Support Unit has responded to this location.
“Depending on the actions of the suspect, our response may require using a variety of tactics and tools to apprehend him. This could also involve the deploying of chemical agents; nearby citizens with respiratory illnesses/sensitivities should remain inside and make sure doors and windows are closed,” police wrote.Police say to follow instructions, which might include leaving your home if needed.
Police are asking for the media and the public to refrain from posting and/or publishing photographs and/or videos at this time until this has been resolved. “Showing tactical positions and movements in these types of situations can put the public and officers’ safety at risk,” police wrote.This story has been updated with new information.
