A homeless campsite in Midtown is set to be abated on Friday around 2:30pm due to health and safety concerns.ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The Municipality of Anchorage plans to clear the pop-up homeless camp on Fairbanks Street near East 40th Avenue on Friday following reports of safety concerns.warning campers that they would need to vacate the area, with their belongings, by Friday afternoon.

On Thursday, city leaders said it had Parks and Rec make sure the abatement notices were up and performing daily site cleaning. Braniff said there are about 40 structures — between RVs, cars, and tents — set up along the side of the streets, and with it, the sidewalks have accumulated people’s belongings and trash.“We’ve seen a variety of safety concerns that range from the shooting, including a person being killed in that incident, to greywater being emptied into the street from out of the RV,” Braniff said. “There’s been hypodermic needles in the streets, garbage in general.
