This week’s Live After Five featured performer is Hussy Hicks . On Friday, the lineup includes Hwy 9, Black Barrel & The Bad Men, Sundog and others. Saturday’s musical options include Roland Roberts Band, Uncle Salmontooth, The Jephries, the Casey Smith Project, Deadphish Orchestra and more. Tickets for adults are $80 for both days with ticketing available for youths and single days as well. Part of Fourth Avenue was closed off to make way for food and entertainment at the Downtown Summer Solstice Festival in 2014.
The Anchorage Downtown Partnership presents this free annual celebration with 70 arts and crafts vendors, food trucks, three beer gardens, vintage cars, a kid zone, photo booth and much more. The festival also features music from Australian duo Hussy Hicks, Indigenous artist Ashley Young, the Soul Society of Alaska and an Alaska Jazz Workshop ensemble.
One of Anchorage’s favorite events of the summer gets running Saturday with marathon runners starting at 7:30 a.m. There are also options for a half-marathon, relays and the kids mile. The race starts at Kincaid Park and finishes at the Delaney Park Strip, running through Anchorage. This 10th annual event invites kids 15 and younger and their families to Ship Creek for a day of fishing and fun. The youth-only fishery opens at 6 a.m., and based on the tide, the best fishing should be between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. At 2:30 p.m., young anglers can line up at the pedestrian bridge for a group photo, gift bags and hot dogs.
There will be limited sets of fishing gear for youth anglers to use for free. The theme of this year’s celebration is “Celebrating Black Excellence: Past, Present and Future. ” The Juneteenth Parade gets going at noon Saturday, and the celebration at the Park Strip includes a fashion show, retail vendors, food vendors, live entertainment and more.
