Anchorage Assembly reconsiders and votes to approve a $250,000 settlement for former city manager Amy Demboski.

ANCHORAGE , Alaska - In a reconsideration vote during Tuesday’s regular meeting, the Anchorage Assembly voted 8-4 to approve allocating $250,000 to settle former Municipal Manager , Amy Demboski ’s claims against the Municipality .

Assembly Member Felix Rivera opposed the settlement, citing concerns beyond fiscal responsibility. He said, “I worry about the message this settlement sends. Two wrongs don’t make a right. Voting yes on this would mean abandoning the values I hold dear.”the settlement. However, Assembly Member Karen Bronga, who was part of the prevailing vote, moved for reconsideration, noting, “More information came to light that made me think we should reconsider the item.

Following an executive session, the Assembly voted 10-2 to reconsider the decision. Vice Chair Meg Zaletel expressed regret for the lack of debate in the earlier vote. “The only way for you to know the thoughts in our head is for us to say them,” she said. Assembly Chair Christopher Constant concluded, “We settle, we lose. We lose in court, we lose. Our best choice is to end the game.”Authorities investigating after 2 teen women found dead in Western Alaska villageShots fired at police during response to mental health crises, APD says
