The Anchorage Assembly has launched a Public Restroom Survey to gain feedback from residents and tourists on whether additional public restrooms are needed in the city and if so, where?

Anchorage voters did not pass Proposition 8 on the city’s April 2 ballot. The proposition would have allocated a $5 million bond to purchase at least 10 modular toilets, to be installed across the Municipality of Anchorage.

Constant said the city spends roughly $500,000 every year to put out portable bathrooms in high-use areas, and said the units are often destroyed due to poor quality, and because people do not use them properly. Constant said he sees the survey as a data-gathering method that’s timely. Johnson said that the survey is aimed at gaining input on the need, location and design for future public restrooms. Previously, Assembly members considered purchasing a product known as Portland Loos, a stand-alone bathroom made in Portland, Oregon.
