Ancaman kemarau melanda Asia Tenggara ketika negara-negara di rantau ini terus mengalami suhu tinggi susulan laporan gelombang haba bertambah buruk akibat pencemaran udara.

Sementara itu, Bangkok, ibu negara Thailand, mencatat rekod 41°C pada hujung minggu lalu. Di Filipina, Dipolog City mencapai 47°C pada petang Ahad, menurut biro cuaca negeri, Pentadbiran Perkhidmatan Atmosfera, Geofizik dan Astronomi Filipina. Singapura mencatatkan suhu tertinggi dalam tempoh 40 tahun pada 37°C pada Mei 13, kata Agensi Sekitaran Kebangsaan negara itu.

Gabungan kualiti udara yang buruk, dan haba melampau akibat gas rumah hijau yang terperangkap di atmosfera, telah meningkatkan risiko strok haba dan penyakit pernafasan, kardiovaskular, dan buah pinggang.
