Democratic Alliance leader John Steenhuisen says South Africa needs AGOA as it secures thousands of jobs in the country.He said,"I think it's clear that this is just one of a number of issues where the provincial government of the Western Cape; often under instruction from DA leadership [like] John Steenhuisen and Helen Zille, are taking on powers that do not exist.
"from the Western Cape would arrest President [Vladimir] Putin if he arrives for the Brics summit. Everyone knows that is a power the LEAP officers do not possess."The ANC in the Western Cape has expressed concern over Premier Alan Winde's visit to the US. Winde's visit aims to promote the Western Cape as a trade and investment destination of choice. And also assure the US government that the province remains committed to the African Growth and Opportunity Act.

Africa Peace Mission to Ukraine, Russia, Gets UnderwayA long-awaited peace mission from Africa to Russia and Ukraine is finally taking place as some of the continent's leaders are their way to Kyiv and St Petersburg to propose a peace plan. The Russia, Ukraine conflict began on February 24, 2022 when Russia's President Vladimir Putin sent over 300,000 troops into Kiev in a bid to "demilitarise and denazify" the Ukraine, BBC reports. Meanwhile, Algeria's President Abdelmadjid Tebboune had a seperate meeting with Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on June 15, 2023, in which he thanked Putin for accepting Algeria's mediation in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Meanwhile, South Africa's President Cyril Ramaphosa's security detail has been stopped from disembarking in Poland as authorities there are attempting to disarm them. Talks with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky gets underway today, June 16, 2023 in Kyiv, while talks with Russia's President Vladimir Putin will take place on June 17, 2023 in St Petersburg. The war between Russia and the Ukraine saw the initial blockade of Ukraine's seaports which forced the country to halt nearly all deliveries of grain, which sparked concerns of a worldwide food crisis. The world relies heavily on Russia and Ukraine for oil, wheat and other commodities. Africa has been hit by unprecedented food price hikes since the war between the two nations began.
