According to Mbalula, the ANC will not dictate to Ramaphosa whom to appoint to Cabinet or fire, but they do expect him to consult the party and its alliance partners.

“He will bring proposals to the ANC and at the end; the president has got to work with the package that he got. He’ll bring suggestions [and] apply his mind but at the end of the day, we understand in the ANC how issues of that nature are dealt with.”Mbalula said the ANC’s top seven officials did not want to “micro-manage” the president to a point where he could not take decisions.

“The president has got our full support and the mandate of the ANC conference to think and decide on such matters. With due respect, in consultation with the party,” said Mbalula.
