The governing party’s NEC wants there to be a framework to regulate the stability of coalition governments, where coalition agreements between political parties will be made public.
JOHANNESBURG - The African National Congress’s national executive committee has reiterated its commitment to developing a framework that would regulate the stability of coalition governments at the municipal level.
This comes as some Gauteng municipalities have seen sporadic changes in political leadership in the past year.Speaking at a media briefing on Sunday, the NEC's governance sub-committee chairperson, Thembi Nkadimeng, said there needed to be a guideline to support motions of no confidence. “One of the requirements we are putting as the ANC is that the coalition frameworks must be publicised. You stay in Johannesburg, supposedly, what is the coalition agreement that is on the table? What are these people agreeing about that is the benefit of the people?”
