Blantyre female tried to report she was being followed but ended up having to travel to Rutherglen police station after failing to access the closed facilities in her home town and Cambuslang.

Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar has accused First Minister Humza Yousaf of having his "head in the sand" after a woman was unable to report to Cambuslang police station that she was being followed.

Having already unsuccessfully tried to access her local town's police station, the woman had been unable to enter the closed Cambuslang police station while Mr Sarwar was speaking to journalists.Get all the news from your area – as well as features, entertainment, sport and the latest on Lanarkshire’s recovery from the coronavirus pandemic – straight to your fingertips, 24/7.

Mr Sarwar said on Thursday at FMQs: "This is actually, this is a very serious issue because it is important for people right across communities because earlier this week, when I was in Cambuslang, I met a distressed woman trying to report a serious incident to the police. "Our conversation was a heart-breaking example of what a loss of local policing means for communities.
