After filling the cups of her close friends and family, Reed took to local farmer’s markets. Sharing her concoctions with whomever she thought had natural health and wellness in mind, Reed made sure she kept track of her customers’ testimonies. “I really learned a lot from my customers because they would say, ‘this made me feel this way,’ or ‘I’ve been drinking the green juice every day and it's helped give me energy,’ or ‘I sleep better at night,’ or ‘I don't have sugar cravings.
Shortly after, Reed tried the cultures and garnered international attention for the idea. So much so that she and Garden of Flavor won the “Best Juice or Juice Drink Category” at the World Beverage Innovation Awards in 2014. Traveling to Nuremberg, Germany to accept, Reed realized what she had on her hands. “That's what really gave me the confidence that I needed to move to a manufacturing facility and really give people the product that I was making,” she said.
“We had to have a wash line in order to tumble and wash all the vegetables. We have a large produce elevator that feeds the leafy greens into a shredder. Then you have to have strainers. Then you have to have… tanks where our recipes are mixed - antique stainless steel, dairy tanks. We started with a 4-head, in-line filler, then moved to an 8-head, then a 12-head, now we have a 16-head. You have to apply the correct labels to the bottles so you need a label line.
