An iconic scene from The Dark Knight pops up in the Joker’s memory, hinting that a notable standoff is actually canon in the DC Universe.

One of the most nail-biting scenes from The Dark Knight is actually canon to the DC Universe's history. A glimpse inside the Clown Prince of Crime's mind reveals a memory that fans may recognize from the Christopher Nolan's film.

The 2008 film The Dark Knight was the hotly anticipated follow-up sequel to Batman Begins and introduced its world's version of the Joker to take on Christian Bale's Batman. The Joker, played by Heath Ledger, is portrayed as a corrupting force for chaos, wanting to bring everything down to his level. In one tense scene, the Joker and Batman confront each other on an empty street. Brandishing a gun, the Joker shoots at Batman, who is rocketing towards Joker on the Batpod.

It’s hard to say if the Joker genuinely remembers this confrontation with Batman. After all, he claims he doesn’t exactly remember his past, preferring it to be “multiple choice”. But it is interesting that one of the few memories the Atom is witness to is a scene from The Dark Knight. It could imply that this Joker just so happened to have a similar experience as the one from the film. Or Joker could actually be remembering events from other versions of himself out in the multiverse.

Joker Remembers Everything From All His Selves If there’s one thing fans know about the Joker, it’s that his grasp on reality is tenuous at best. Joker has broken the fourth wall repeatedly, and shown an ability to gather information he otherwise should not know. It’s not completely out of the question to suggest that he’s able to recall events that, while didn’t exactly happen to him, happened to some other version of him.
