, the exhibition brings together 90 photographs from international collections, accompanied by backstage shots from a Ren Hang shoot in the Wienerwald in 2015, as well as a wide selection of his poetry and other writings.As the works on show demonstrate, Ren Hang immortalised the spirit of rebellion and torment shared among China’s youth, shattering the stereotypes, prejudices and taboos by which they were limited.

In 2017, Hang died by suicide after a prolonged battle with severe depression. Though he may have passed at the young age of 30, he left behind a substantial body of work that has since become synonymous with a new, free and rebellious Chinese youth, reflecting on the body, identity, sexuality and the relationship between nature and mankind.A provocative approach to nakedness is a defining feature of Ren Hang’s work.
