After decades of deadlock, young Bhutanese-Nepali activists seek a new approach with the country that rendered them homeless over 30 years ago.

Ram Upreti was working as a civil engineer in Bhutan in 1990 when he was arrested on charges of supporting pro-democracy activists.

The organization was formed by Bhutanese Nepali young professionals and students from Greater Columbus and around the U.S. who had coalesced online earlier this year. After decades of deadlock between the Bhutanese government and human rights activists, it decided to try something new. “We don’t want to forget what has happened to us. But we want to forgive so that we can move on from this and heal as a community, and come back stronger,” she said.
