Elderly woman dies in Galveston house fire
The Galveston Fire Department found the woman's body in her home in the 3300 block of Avenue M, Chief Charlie Olsen said. She has not been identified, and a cause of the blaze had not been determined Monday.“I cannot emphasize enough, smoke detectors do save lives,” he said. “I’ve seen it.”Arriving firefighters found the home engulfed around 8 p.m., with flames beginning to reach adjacent structures, Olssen said.
Once authorities knocked down the fire, they pulled the woman's body from the back of the home, Olsen said. A cat in the home also died in the blaze.
