Start preparing your fake coughs...

Those most invested in what’s happening in Westeros are people in Yorkshire, Wales and the South East who are most likely to call in sick come Monday morning.

One in five fans from these regions are actually considering phoning in with a fake illness to get the most enjoyment out of staying up to watch the premiere. As the series airs on HBO at 9pm ET in the US, it is being simulcast on this side of the pond – the only problem is, that’s 2am GMT.In order to avoid spoilers all day Monday from American fans, many of us are considering staying up until the wee hours to watch in real time.HBO is being frustratingly tight-lipped about the episode one synopsis, but reactions from critics who attended the New York premiere last week are in and some big moments have been teased.

Entertainment Weekly’s James Hibberd tweeted: ‘Just watched @GameOfThrones season 8 premiere: Fantastic. So many reunions. Some epic sequences. ‘Not just table setting for the rest of season. Major Stuff happens in deeply satisfying ways. More thoughts in next podcast.’The Telegraph’s Jane Mulkerrins’ spoiler-free review teases ‘unsettling violence but plenty of one-liners’.
