) makes the jump to scripted features as she helms the true-crime drama, which follows a distraught mother, Mari Gilbert , as she relentlessly pressures law enforcement to find her missing daughter. In the process, her search inadvertently kicks up investigations into several old murder cases involving young female sex workers killed along Long Island’s South Shore.
Along the way, she clashes with shady detectives who, upon discovering multiple bodies unrelated to her daughter’s disappearance, attempt to bury their findings. But, Gilbert, who suspects a cover-up, isn’t about to go down without a fight. “No one’s talking about our girls. And when they do, it’s ‘prostitute,’ ‘hooker,’ never ‘mother,’ ‘daughter,’ and it’s our job to make sure these girls are not forgotten,” she says. “I have been dismissed and ignored, but one thing I won’t be is silenced.”
