In this Vanity Fair article, Oscar contenders Amy Adams and Denis Villeneuve reflect on their collaboration on the acclaimed sci-fi film Arrival. They discuss the challenges and rewards of taking creative risks, the impact of the film on their careers, and their hopes for future collaborations.
In Reunited, Awards Insider hosts a conversation between two Oscar contenders who have collaborated on a previous project. The ambitious sci-fi film, which starred Adams as a linguist who is attempting to communicate with aliens, came to the actor at a time when she was exhausted from an emotionally difficult shoot—but she couldn’t resist the script. It would end up being one of her best performances to date.
How do you each handle that? Adams: It gets different for each shoot. For Arrival, I remember I kept getting stomach aches. I don't know if you remember that. I think I was internalizing all of that emotion. But for something like Nightbitch, I think the thing that was really challenging was the sort of ever-present energy of working with a three-year-old on set, and then still maintaining the emotional integrity of the character through that. It was also really fun.
