Leeds United pair Ethan Ampadu and Daniel James have travelled with the Wales squad for their forthcoming friendlies against Gibraltar and Slovakia
Wales boss Rob Page is adamant Ethan Ampadu and Daniel James are in the "right frame of mind" for international duty this week. The Leeds United duo are poised to feature in Wales' forthcoming friendlies against Gibraltar and Slovakia.
Wide man James has also been included for the end-of-season trip, despite requiring several stitches in a head wound suffered at the national stadium. His last international appearance in March ended in penalty shoot-out despair when James saw his spot-kick against Poland saved to dash Wales’ dream of reaching Euro 2024.
With regular Wales skipper Aaron Ramsey unavailable for selection, Ampadu is in pole position to wear the captain’s armband at least once in the friendlies. The 23-year-old, who has already accumulated 51 caps, is the most experienced player in the party. Ampadu started every one of United's 46 Championship matches as well as their three play-off fixtures. Page stressed there was no thought of giving Ampadu a rest after playing over 60 games for club and country this season.
