Armed with an overwhelming strike authorization vote and an activated membership, the performers’ union is seeking to tackle the snowballing issues of A.I. and streaming residuals: 'If there is a deal to be made, we'll make it.”

“I expect to deploy the full leverage that SAG-AFTRA has generated in various ways to make a deal,” says the union’s chief negotiator and national executive director Duncan Crabtree-Ireland. “And if there is a deal to be made, we’ll make it.” The AMPTP has said it is approaching the negotiations “with the goal of achieving a new agreement that is beneficial to SAG-AFTRA members and the industry overall.

In some cases, the issues that SAG-AFTRA is seeking to tackle in this negotiation overlap with those prioritized by the industry’s writers and directors in their own talks with the AMPTP.
