Blue skies replaced morning drizzle
Saturday seemed a day of magical transformation in Washington’s skies, as the frowning clouds of morning gave way to an afternoon of dazzling autumn sunshine.

In spots, fallen raindrops sparkled on lawns.
However much the dim morning may have encouraged brooding, the afternoon seemed to ask a new attitude. In its flood of October light it seemed to lift moods and spirits.The official high temperature, 70 degrees, recorded in the hour after midnight, seemed a residue of the warmth of Friday. But even that 70 fell three degrees below the average Oct. 7 high.Afternoon temperatures were in the 60s, a range that seems on its face to promote vigor.
