The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission issued an urgent message advising Americans who purchased one company's smoke detectors to immediately discard the product after it failed to activate in the presence of smoke.The recall was issued on May 16 for approximately 6,800 CHZHVAN Combination Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detectors after the CPSC received five reports of the product failing to operate.
According to the CPSC, the China-based firm that sold the product has not been cooperative with the recall.'Most recalls are voluntary, conducted with the cooperation of the company,' a CPSC spokesperson told Newsweek. 'When companies don't respond to a request for a recall, the agency can go public with warnings to consumers about those products. We urge the company to conduct a recall.
