The latest Gallup poll reveals Americans' varied reactions to Donald Trump's victory, with Republicans feeling mostly optimistic and proud, whereas Democrats express fear and anger. The majority of Americans also confirm their acceptance of Trump as the legitimate president.
The election has concluded, and Americans are expressing a range of emotions as President-elect Donald Trump prepares to take office for a second term. A recent Gallup poll conducted between November 6-20, two weeks after Trump's victory, delved into the sentiments of Americans. The poll included eight emotions: surprised, proud, excited, relieved, devastated, afraid, angry, and optimistic.
The results show that around half of Americans are optimistic about the election results, with between 40% to 46% also feeling relieved, excited, or proud. However, 29% to 38% are reporting feelings of fear, anger, or devastation. Republicans and Republican-leaning independents are largely optimistic, relieved, excited, and proud about Trump's victory, while Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents are predominately afraid, angry, and devastated. The survey also found that Democrats are more than twice as likely as Republicans to say they are surprised by the election outcome. Additionally, nearly all Americans, including 99% of Republicans and 84% of Democrats, say they will accept Trump as the legitimate president
