The percentage of U.S. consumers celebrating this year rose by 3 percent compared with last year.U.S. consumers are planning to spend $9.
About a third of those planning to celebrate also plan to spend additional money on patriotic items such as flags. The most popular activity on the Fourth is cookouts, barbecues and picnics, with 65 percent of consumers saying they'll attend one. In second place, 42 percent of those surveyed said they'll attend fireworks or another community event this Fourth of July.
