A free traveling exhibit by the American Battlefield Trust opened in West Hills, California, offering an immersive look at life during the American Revolution. Hosted by Daughters of the American Revolution chapters, the exhibit features panels, interactive kiosks and artifacts, and asks visitors to consider the difficult choices faced by colonists. It runs through July 26 before moving to Whittier.

The American Revolution Experience, a free traveling exhibit created by the American Battlefield Trust to commemorate the United States' 250th birthday, opened on Monday, July 20, 2026, at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church in West Hills.

The exhibit, hosted by the Daughters of the American Revolution's California District VIII chapters, will be open daily through July 26 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. before moving to its next location at the Whittier Central Library from July 29 to August 6. Through a combination of informative panels, interactive kiosks, storytelling, illustrations, technology, and historical artifacts, the display captures what daily life was like for residents of the original 13 colonies as the American Revolution unfolded.

The exhibition explores the pivotal dilemma faced by the Revolutionary Generation: whether to pledge loyalty to the Patriot cause and the prospect of a new nation or remain loyal to the British Crown as subjects of the Empire. At the West Hills opening, members of various DAR chapters, including the Chatsworth Chapter and the Alliklik Chapter, were present, some dressed in period clothing such as a robe à l'anglaise.

Volunteers like Lisa Waters and Barbara Adamczyk discussed their families' lineage to the American Revolution, highlighting the personal connections many Americans still feel to this foundational era. Michelle Stovall of the Conejo Valley Chapter also assisted with the setup. The exhibit's engaging format encourages visitors to consider how they might have chosen during those turbulent times, making the history of the Revolution feel immediate and personal.

As a free, pop-up exhibition traveling across California, it provides an accessible way for communities to engage with the complex story of America's founding and the diverse perspectives that existed during the push for independence
