A new Gallup poll reveals a record low in the number of Americans expressing pride for their country, sparking concerns about evolving national sentiment.

A new survey has revealed a decline in the number of Americans who express pride in their country. Gallup, a renowned polling organization, conducted a survey earlier this month, questioning 1,000 U.S. adults about their national pride . The results paint a somber picture, showing a record-low 58% of respondents indicating they felt 'extremely' or 'very' proud to be American.

This figure represents a decline of nine percentage points from the previous year and five points below the previous low recorded in 2020.The survey, conducted prior to the recent military action in Iran, delves into the nuances of national sentiment. While 41% reported feeling 'extremely proud,' this figure is statistically similar to previous lows, indicating that the primary shift this year is attributed to a decrease in those who feel 'very proud,' now standing at 17%. Additional data reveals a concerning trend: 19% expressed 'moderate' pride, 11% felt 'only a little' proud, and 9% claimed to be 'not at all' proud. This distribution, with 20% falling on the lower end of the pride scale, mirrors the record 21% recorded in 2020. Interestingly, the survey highlights stark partisan divides. Democrats accounted for much of this year's decline in U.S. pride, with only 36% expressing 'extremely' or 'very' proud compared to 62% last year. This marks the second instance where Democratic pride has dipped below the majority level, the other being in 2020, the last year of the first Trump administration. Political independents' pride also suffered a setback, reaching a low of 53% - a seven-point decrease from last year. However, Republicans consistently maintained a high level of national pride, registering at 92% this year, an increase from 85% in 2024. Moreover, generational differences are evident, with each younger generation expressing significantly less pride than their predecessors. Millennials and Generation Z stand out, with less than half of Gen Z (41%) feeling 'extremely' or 'very' proud compared to 58% of millennials.
