Police said upon entering the residence they saw a man holding a knife who appeared to have been shot multiple times in the back and chest. They attempted first-aid, but said medical personnel arrived and determined the man was dead. In an upstairs bedroom, detectives found clothing, a wallet, and a driver's license they said belonged to Ellis. Next to the wallet, police said they found a rolled-up dollar bill and a "white powdery substance" field-tested positive for cocaine.
