An American Airlines flight was delayed for four hours due to a passenger's Wi-Fi hotspot named 'There is a bomb on the flight.' Authorities responded to the incident, rescreened passengers and baggage, and thoroughly checked the aircraft.
An American Airlines flight was delayed for hours due to a Wi-Fi hotspot named with the word 'bomb.' Flight 2863, which departed from Austin, Texas, to Charlotte, North Carolina last Friday, faced a four-hour delay because of suspicious activity involving the Wi-Fi hotspot. According to Bruce Steen, a passenger on the flight, a young man approached a flight attendant with a tablet, displaying a Wi-Fi hotspot named 'There is a bomb on the flight.
' The attendant immediately notified the cockpit, and the pilot announced that the plane would return to the gate due to an 'administrative issue.'\The incident prompted a response from the Austin Police Department and the Department of Aviation. The pilot informed passengers that someone had renamed their hotspot. A lieutenant from the Austin Police Department boarded the aircraft and addressed the passengers, urging anyone involved in the prank to come forward. He emphasized that the situation would be handled differently depending on whether it was a joke or a serious threat.\Steen explained to ABC reporters that no passengers raised their hands, and everyone was subsequently removed from the aircraft in groups by police. Each passenger was required to present their hotspot to authorities for inspection. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) issued a statement to ABC, stating that they and their partners take bomb threats extremely seriously. The TSA confirmed that passengers and all checked baggage underwent rescreening, and authorities thoroughly inspected each baggage compartment on the aircraft. The Austin Airport assured ABC that the incident did not significantly impact airport operations or the airline's schedule
