American isn’t waiting until next summer to boost its international service. Five flights start this week:
For now, Munich will join London Heathrow as American’s only non-stop transatlantic destination from Charlotte. But in the summer, Charlotte will have seven transatlantic flights. Destinations include Dublin, Frankfurt, Madrid, Munich and London, which will operate twice daily from March 27 to Oct. 29.
American has been operating the flight with 777-200 seating 273 passengers. The first time, US Airways used a 767 seating about 200 passengers. Meanwhile, the Philadelphia to Zurich route underscores the continuing importance of Philadelphia as American’s principal transatlantic hub. Znotins noted that two thirds of Philadelphia’s international traffic is connecting, compared with one third at JFK.
