Advanced Micro Devices won't unseat Nvidia as the top AI chipmaker anytime soon. But the company's latest AI acquisition shows its willing to get creative to fortify its place in the rapidly growing market. AMD on Monday announced a $4.9 billion deal to purchase privately held server maker ZT Systems. The transaction, which is expected to close in 2025, is 75% in cash and the rest in stock.
