AMC Theatres is set to close its Seattle 10 location on January 30, 2025, citing a routine review of its theater circuit and a decision to focus on strengthening the company. The company thanked its patrons and encouraged them to visit other nearby AMC locations. This closure coincides with other changes in the University District, including the impending closure of Seattle's oldest continuously running movie theater, Grand Illusion Cinema, due to a lease issue.

AMC Theatres announced it will close its Seattle 10 location after the close of business on Thursday, January 30. 'I can confirm that AMC will cease operations at Seattle 10 after close of business on Thursday 01/30/25,' an AMC spokesperson told FOX 13 Seattle in a statement. 'AMC routinely reviews the theatres in our circuit, as well as opportunities outside of our circuit, and makes decisions based on what will best strengthen the Company going forward.

' The company expressed gratitude to its patrons at the Seattle 10 location. 'We thank our Seattle 10 guests for their patronage and encourage them to continue enjoying the AMC experience at AMC Alderwood Mall 16 and AMC Oak Tree 6,' the spokesperson added. AMC Theatres, one of the largest movie theater chains in the world, said it regularly evaluates its locations to optimize its operations and enhance its business strategy. The University District is also home to the Grand Illusion Cinema. Seattle's oldest continuously running movie theater said movie screenings would continue there through Jan. 30. Grand Illusion said the new owners of their building decided not to renew the theater's lease. They are planning to move to a new location in the U-District but said that would take some time. Another closure is taking place in the neighborhood. Seattle’s first Burgermaster, established in 1952, will close in February. The University District location has been a beloved community staple for 73 years. Other locations around the area will remain open.
