Amber Heard’s legal team is seeking to throw out the verdict of Johnny Depp’s defamation case against her.

According to the filing, instead of hewing their arguments to the op-ed, Depp’s team sought to litigate Heard’s domestic violence claim and temporary restraining order from two and a half years before the op-ed’s publication.

In doing so, Bredehoft argues while taking each count of defamation in turn, Depp’s side extended the parameters of damages, and continued “to urge the jury to restore his reputation and legacy to his children as a result of Ms. Heard accusing Mr. Depp in May 2016 of domestic violence.” The brief claims that Depp did not provide any evidence that he lost arole or any other roles because of Heard’s 2018 op-ed, and calls the jury’s verdict—and subsequent damages—“indefensible” and “excessive.

They also claim that one juror may not have been properly vetted by court officials, since his birthday was listed at 1945, when he was in fact born in 1970. Heard’s team has asked the court to set aside the verdict entirely, dismiss the complaint, or order a new trial.
