Amazon’s Retail Rivals Are Happy To Work With It—As AWS Cloud Clients

Amazon and its rival retailers are much tighter than you think

AWS's other retail customers include upscale emporium Nordstrom, GameStop, U.K.’s Sainsbury’s and Europe's No. 1 online fashion platform Zalando. Nike, Under Armour, Lululemon, Brooks Brothers and Coach parent Tapestry also use the service.

"We see retailers really go deep with machine learning on the AWS platform," Phil Thompson, Amazon’s worldwide tech leader for retail, said in an interview. "Retailers are now starting to use cloud as a strategy." To attract more retail customers, Amazon in late 2017 hired Tom Litchford—who previously headed tech leadership communities for the National Retail Federation, the top industry trade group—as the head of AWS's worldwide business development for retail.about its AWS use. “We want greater agility for our engineers. … We want them to be able to experiment faster.”
