Mark Grayson nearly has to marry a fish in Invincible season 2, episode 2, but the series makes some big changes to how the comics handle this arc.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Summary Amazon Prime Video's Invincible season 2 just told the story in which Mark almost has to marry a fish, but it surprisingly changes how the titular superhero got out of the situation.

Invincible is a pretty weird show, with its serious main story of Mark's conflicts with his superhero father being surrounded by wacky storylines and strange new characters. One of the oddest arcs from the comics involves Mark's trip to Atlantis, and upon watching the show's adaptation of this arc, it becomes clear that Invincible season 2 has made some major changes. Invincible season 2 is finally here, with the highly-anticipated continuation of Amazon Prime Video's beloved animated superhero series currently releasing on the streaming service. Invincible season 2 already has a pretty full plate, with it having to follow up on Invincible's battle with Omni-Man in Chicago while also introducing an all-new multiversal threat: Angstrom Levy. However, Invincible season 2, episode 2 takes the time to wrap up some loose ends, one of which almost requires Mark to marry a fish.Invincible Season 2 Changes How Mark Avoids Marrying A Fish Omni-Man famously killed every member of the Guardians of the Globe in Invincible season 1, episode 1, one of which included the King of Atlantis, Aquarus. The events in Atlantis following Aquarus' death weren't really discussed in season 1, but Invincible season 2, episode 2 finally decided to explore what happened in the undersea kingdom. In the episode, Mark discovers that he is liable for the crimes of his father, with Cecil explaining what he must do. As it turns out, Atlantis has a law that explains the only way for Mark to pay for his crimes is to marry Aquarus' widow, Aquaria, the fish Queen of Atlantis. Upon arriving in Atlantis in the show, Aquaria explains that the marriage law had been abolished a long time ago, with Mark instead having to fight a sea monster as a punishment. However, the original Invincible comics handle this event a little differently. Upon arriving in Atlantis in the comics, Mark discovers that he has to first fight the sea monster in order to earn Aquaria's hand in marriage. However, another citizen of Atlantis steps in and professes his life for the queen, allowing Mark to get out of the situation. Invincible's Comic Changes Improve Mark's Atlantis Story Although the Invincible show has been fairly accurate to the comics, the changes regarding the Atlantis story actually make the arc better. Firstly, Mark's escape from Atlantis seemed kind of convenient in the comics, as the random decision for a fish to announce his love for the queen is what allows him to escape. Also, the idea that Mark has to fight a sea monster before marrying the queen in order to pay for his crimes is a little convoluted, and the show's explanation makes things a bit simpler.Furthermore, the events from the Invincible comics are just a little too weird for the show. The death of Aquarus takes place in one of the show's darkest scenes, so showing the repercussions of Omni-Man's massacre in such a silly way kind of takes away from the moment. Having Mark simply fight a sea monster and leave is still weird, but it's grounded enough that it works better for the story of Invincible.
