I’ve been writing about video games, television and movies for Forbes for over 10 years, and you may have seen my reviews on Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic. I cover all manner of console and PC games, but if it’s about looting or shooting, I’m definitely there. If I’m watching something, it’s usually science fiction, horror or superheroic.
Amazon Prime Video does not produce the volume of shows of some of its competition like Netflix, but when they land something popular, it ends up being pretty big indeed given how many people have Prime memberships almost automatically in this country.
The Boys may be one of its biggest shows, but a new series has come along and gotten a lot of viewership,. That would be My Lady Jane, the historical drama/comedy that you might want to compare to Bridgerton right up until a guy turns into a horse. Yeah, it’s also a fantasy production, you will soon learn.
The Boys is not going to be unseated by My Lady Jane, that much is clear, but the show has been hovering around #2 and #3 on the top 10 list since it arrived.
There’s also the potential for six total seasons easily, as there are five current books in the series with the sixth coming out a month from now. There will likely be more to come after that. That mirrors Bridgerton and the way Netflix is going to keep making that series well into the 2030s, it seems, given its high viewership and nearly endless source material.
No, I do not think that despite the similarities that My Lady Jane will be as much of a megahit as Bridgerton, but it’s really doing quite well and attracting a wide range of viewers.
