Amazon continues to bolster its commitment to artificial intelligence with a significant investment in Anthropic, a leading AI startup. The partnership designates AWS as Anthropic's primary cloud and training partner, providing access to cutting-edge hardware and infrastructure.
Amazon announced on Friday a further $4 billion investment in Anthropic , the artificial intelligence startup founded by former OpenAI researchers. This brings Amazon 's total investment to $8 billion, although Amazon will maintain its minority investor status. Amazon Web Services ( AWS ) will also become Anthropic 's primary cloud and training partner. Anthropic will utilize AWS Trainium and Inferentia chips to train and deploy its largest AI models.
Anthropic is the company behind Claude, a chatbot that, like OpenAI's ChatGPT and Google's Gemini, has gained significant popularity. The partnership will grant AWS customers early access to Anthropic's fine-tuning capabilities with Claude, allowing them to customize the chatbot with their own data. This unique benefit was highlighted in a company blog post. Amazon's $2.75 billion investment in Anthropic in March was the company's largest external investment in its three-decade history. The companies previously announced a significant milestone: AI agents capable of completing complex tasks like humans using a computer.
