A $575 million investment in Deliveroo promises to give Amazon access to the fast-growing delivery business in Europe
LONDON—The U.K.’s anticompetition authority said it has provisionally approved Amazon.com Inc.’s planned investment in British startup Deliveroo, citing the food-delivery company’s financial vulnerability amid the new coronavirus pandemic.
The decision effectively allows a $575 million investment by Amazon to go ahead. The deal promises to give the e-commerce giant access to the rapidly growing delivery business in Europe at a time when the pandemic is exerting extreme pressure on the nascent industry world-wide.
