The update fixes a bug which could have left users vulnerable to hackers
All Fire Stick TV users are being urged to check whether or not devices have completed an urgent upgrade from Amazon.
The issues were identified by the security team at Bitdefender who then passed on the news to the Fire TV team, reports the Mirror. One flaw was found to be particularly dangerous with hackers able to gain control of devices via a tactic named PIN brute forcing. "Amazon has released fixes for these issues on Fire TV devices and the Fire TV remote app, and the company has no evidence that this issue has been used against customers. Bitdefender has been working closely with the Amazon Fire TV team through all stages of vulnerability disclosure. We would like to extend our thanks for the prompt response time, communication, transparency and escalation", they added.
If there is an update available you can and should install it straight away. Your system will restart when the download is complete.
