Amazon has canceled its acquisition proposal of iRobot, the vacuum cleaner manufacturer, due to antitrust scrutiny on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean. The companies reached a mutual agreement to rescind the announced acquisition deal, citing undue and disproportionate regulatory obstacles. The agreement faced intense antitrust scrutiny, particularly in Europe, where regulators investigating competition concerns were expected to make a final decision before February 14. Amazon had announced its plan to acquire iRobot, the maker of the Roomba robotic vacuum, for $1.7 billion in cash in 2022. However, the value of the deal dropped by 15% after iRobot incurred new debt.
