In the pocket of his Sasquatch hoodie, Ray has a stash of Sasquatch figurines.
Ray George is facing down what he calls the monster of all monsters -- pancreatic cancer. When he was first diagnosed, Ray says he gave himself one day of self-pity. Then, he set out on a mission. I look at it as a blessing because I'm here to lift other people's spirits," Ray said.
"And when I find somebody in line, and they're upset, I will hand them a Sasquatch. In the pocket of his Sasquatch hoodie, Ray has a stash of Sasquatch figurines. Ray said he's gone through hundreds of the small plastic creatures, hiding them in rooms around the cancer care unit at Virginia Mason Franciscan Health in Seattle. The legendary Bigfoot, also known as Sasquatch, is elusive, inhabiting the forests of the Pacific Northwest. Ray tries to be equally stealthy."It's just for people to find, take him, and enjoy him. If it lifts their spirits, that's all I want to do," Ray said."My hands are getting a little shaky these days," Ray said. But he manages to mark each one. His trademark phrase is "sasquatching cancer." Kathryn Swingle is an oncology social worker at VMFH and leads a support group for patients with pancreatic cancer. She knows the importance of a positive outlook."Who would know he has pancreatic cancer?" Swingle said. "I mean, he does, and he has days that are not so great. But he said he's not going to stop him from living life to its fullest.""You realize that you've got no idea how long you have, but the good news is, I've had a whole year. So I feel good about that," Ray said. And he wants others to feel good, too.So while he fights pancreatic cancer - the disease he calls a monster - he'll keep delighting other patients and staff with a mythical monster.'He was able to see the suspect using customers' cards to process their valid McDonald's transaction.'The family of a father of seven has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the City of Lakewood, alleging that a reckless police chase led to his tragic death.Washington state unemployment increases to nearly 5% as national rate decreasesFAA report: Skydiver killed signaled to 'cut him loose' after getting stuck with student A new FAA report details the moments when a Nashville skydiving instructor and student jumped in tandem, got caught on a plane step, leading to a deadly fall.
