On a summer day in 1974, a group of experimental architects completed an unusual art installation in a Texas city that would later become one of the nation’s most iconic roadside attractions. San Antonio-born band Butthole Surfers wants you to dive into their documentary The Ant Farm reached out to several eccentric millionaires across the country and struck gold with Amarillo businessman Stanley Marsh III, who offered his help — and wallet — for the project if they created it in the Panhandle city. The trio drew up a plan to make “a monument to the rise and fall of the Cadillac tailfin,” Lord told Texas Highways.
