The revelation that the Princess of Wales’ uncle Gary Goldsmith had signed up to appear on Celebrity Big Brother last week was immediately followed by the news that he had been ‘read the riot act’ by his older sister Carole.
He argued that ‘the Sussexes should be stripped of their royal titles’ after they had ‘thrown their family under a bus’ via their toxic triumvirate of ‘truth bombs’: that Oprah interview, Netflix series and, above all, Harry’s unsparing memoir Spare. While the royals are bound by strict rules of protocol - the late Queen’s dictum of ‘never complain, never explain’ constantly ringing in their ears - no such strictures apply to the ‘Mouth from Maidenhead’ .
Nor is he shy of discussing his niece’s mysterious health issues: ‘She’s getting the best care in the world and all the family has done is put the wagons around and look after the family.’This is music to the ears of royalists like me - the message we all want to hear at a time when the Palace is feeding us nothing but baffling statements about medical procedures such as ‘abdominal surgery’.
