“That’s why I’m still here.” Eli Tomac may not get the same butterflies he did the very first time he rolled up to the starting gate as a professional racer,...
After outlasting Cooper Webb and Chase Sexton —— at RingCentral Coliseum in Oakland, Calif., Tomac claimed his 48th career Supercross win racing at 450cc and his 60th overall win when combining his victories riding at 250cc. Both marks now have him even with the “GOAT” of his sport.
He stopped racing full time after the 2006 season, but that didn’t stop him from picking up two more Supercross wins running part-time in 2007, bringing his career total to 48 victories at 28 years old. “I wouldn’t say that it could never be broken or tied or whatever it might be,” Carmichael said. “What makes it so hard in this day and age is there’s so many guys that can win races, as opposed to my days. There’s three or four guys that can win now. Hell, there’s eight to 10 guys that legitimately have the talent to win.”
