Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater is revisiting its famed ballet, 'Revelations', with a new piece that features fresh interpretations of songs originally cut from the 1960 premiere. The new work, 'Sacred Songs', explores themes of cleansing and renewal through a blend of traditional Black spirituals, work songs, and blues tunes, echoing the struggles and triumphs of the Black experience.

"As I tried to run away, I just kept falling back into it... so I just gave up and I gave into it," Rushing said during the company's recent stop in Washington, D.C., part of an ongoing nationwide tour through May.
