A flood watch has been issued by the National Weather Service for Harris County.
Cars navigate Yale Street which was flooded between 19th and 20th Streets during a heavy downpour from thunderstorms that came across the area on Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2023 in Houston.is in effect until Sunday evening in inland Harris County, Chambers County and Liberty County, according to the National Weather Service.
Localized flooding may happen as a slow-moving cold front crosses the region, generating up to 2 inches of rain per hour. The flood watch is expected to end at 6 p.m. Periods of rain and thunderstorms are predicted to continue through into the late afternoon, according to forecasters. Since the ground in Harris County has not had time to recover from Tuesday’s storms and Sunday morning rainfall, there is potential for flooding.STORM COVERAGE:
Locations with saturated soils, poor drainage, or urban areas may be vulnerable to flooding, the weather service reported. It is possible for the rainfall to cause flooding in rivers, creeks and other flood prone areas.has been expanded to include inland Harris County due to already saturated soils from not just this morning's rains but from last week's severe storms as well.
